DocuTraffic
The Printing on Demand Manager

Introducing DocuTraffic
DocuTraffic is a software package, based on SQL technology. The key advantage and strongest point of this software is that it is written out of a real-life case. It was always meant to solve the problems in the daily printing practice.
DocuTraffic includes:
Customer information system
The customer information system has all the basic functionalities to maintain the standard addressing issues of a customer. DocuTraffic, however, has additional features which are especially designed for the Printing On Demand industry. It's possible to link unlimited numbers of contact persons to each customer-record. Each contact can have its own password to log-on to your Internet site. On top of that each contact has its own properties in the database.
For example: you are able to give a particular contact the rights to view product prices, just to view product names or to limit the number of products he or she can order. Another very important feature is the possibility to add unlimited delivery addresses to one customer. This gives you the benefit of delivering directly to end-users while you still send the invoice to your customer. And last but not least you can maintain price agreements.

Customer product database
The product database is a state-of-the-art database concept. It allows you to integrate the technical and financial part of your customer's products. All products are stored in the database so you can easily reprint each product to meet the demands of your customer.
Automatic price calculation
As a result of the fact that all information of a document is now stored in a job ticket, DocuTraffic is in the position to link the relation between the features of the document and the article numbers in the database. The way this relation is built up can be adjusted per relation. As soon as the article numbers have been defined, the price will be calculated. For this action the correct price settings of the according relation will be used.
Jobticketing and JDF
DocuTraffic enables you to add job ticketing to your PDF Documents. The link between DocuTraffic and the according PDF document is organised by a special plug-in for Acrobat 5.x. The PDF does not only describe the content of the document, but describes all information to produce the document as well. The DocuTraffic job ticketing allows you to store the following product features in your PDF Document.
Variable data printing
Today it happens more than ever that products are put together from Databases. For example by using the media neutral storage formats like XML and SGML. DocuTraffic is able to handle these as well. Instead of connecting PDF files to DocuTraffic you link, a XML database and a rendering method to DocuTraffic. The DocuTraffic job ticketing is based on the JDF standard. Therefore it is also possible to perform an automatic price calculation with the job ticket information using other environments than PDF.
Acrobat plug-in
A special plug-in has been developed for Acrobat to make it easy to include job tickets within the PDF file. This plug-in can be used standalone or it can be used in connected mode with DocuTraffic. In connected mode you can build stock Libraries per customer. A special product wizard will help you to build a valid PDF/JDF file. The Wizard is customisable for each customer or product

Paper library
DocuTraffic builds up a paper library for each relation. During the production of a job ticket in Acrobat the defined varieties of material can be used. In doing this it enables you to arrange the job ticketing differently from customer to customer.
Timetable / planner
It is a trend that jobs will be smaller and smaller while the number of jobs will increase dramatically. To keep track of all different jobs you need a well-organised planner. DocuTraffic offers you a planner that gives you all required information to deliver the right product at the right time and place. The timetable supplies information about the order status, which operator is in charge and how much time is left to deliver. Your production manager can easily change priorities of jobs to realise the planning. The planner of DocuTraffic works with colours and symbols to make help make decisions easily. Tracking distinguishes different order statuses to follow an order from the beginning until it is delivered.

History
DocuTraffic will maintain a history of each job. The history gives you information about the progression of each job. All status changes of a job are logged into the history, including extra comments while the job is running. The history will help you to discuss possible problems with your customer. You can also see which employee handled a certain job or job status.
Job submission
From the planning list, the jobs will be sent to the correct printers using the print server. The print server retrieves the appropriate document from the storage disk. The job ticket information is then translated into the right format. This of course depends on the chosen printer. The print server will also execute the imposition "on the fly". Once the job has been sent to the printer, the status of the printer will be checked permanently in order to keep track of the progression of the job; this last option depends on the features of your printer.
Internet
Thanks to the product database you are able to display the product titles over the Internet. A customer can just order by clicking the right product names. At the same time they can see their own schedule of all the orders in progress. If they need to change some priorities they enter the request. No secrets anymore - the customer can really see what you are doing. Using the Internet the system is also able to send an automated e-mail notification at the moment an order reaches a predefined status.
Using definable Wizards, enables the customer to define a job ticket via the Internet. DocuTraffic will calculate the price on demand and forward the result. If the customer agrees upon the price, the product can be taken into production.
Transport manager
The moment a job is ready you inform the system of the required delivery method: your own or a third party transport company. Importantly you are still able to track each job until it is delivered. The system can also be used to register customer requests for pickups.
Printer productivity
DocuTraffic enables you to control the different production printers from a central location. In daily practice it often happens that printers have to wait too long to solve a paper jam or to fill the paper trays, especially where multiple printers are installed.. DocuTraffic monitors all printers connected to the network. Productivity reports per printer are generated on request, the status shown in colour on the screen.
Connection to the outside world
DocuTraffic uses XML for communication to other software environments. It is therefore possible to link different production environments through this communication. XSLT diagrams are used to connect the XML tagging of the different XML DTD's to each other. In fact by doing so all barriers for unlocking data have been taken away.
About DocuTraffic
The product has been developed by Adel Print. Adel Print is a printing on demand Company in Europe, who 15 years ago, made the decision to develop software for the printing industry workflow. Adel Print continues to use DocuTraffic on a daily base and the development is on-going.
